Drill: Ring Hop Challenge
Equipment needed: 4 Rings Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good CONCENTRATION by demonstrating their ability to remember patterns and the proper amount of kicks to do on each rep.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can make the game a race by giving the student that finishes the correct combination first a point, and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins. The instructor can also give the lines silly team names in order to motivate the students, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”. This will motivate the students to play the game with effort in order to score and win for their team.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student has to remember the combination of colors that the instructor calls out, and hop to each color while doing two roundkicks in the rings they hop in. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they have to remember the combination the instructor calls out.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The student will have the 4 rings in front of them, when the instructor calls a color the student must hop to that ring and do 2 kicks.
  • The instructor will then call 2 colors and will keep calling color combos until they reach 5 different colors.
  • If the students make a mistake then they have to go to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Listen to the color that is called out.
  • Go as fast as you can while hopping.
  • Keep your feet together so you can land in the ring.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
