Equipment needed:
1 small pad, 1 wavemaster per line
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
In this drill we will work on having CONCENTRATION with our round kicks by learning how to make our legs stronger so we can hold our kicks higher.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructors can ask the students which leg they would like to use first, their left or their right. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to focus on keeping their leg pressed against he block for the entire duration of their turn. This works on their ability to focus on one thing for an extended period of time, as they have to hold their leg high and strong.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 instructor per line ready to set up each student.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
The first student in line will come up to the pad and chamber for a round kick.
The instructor will then hold the small pad against the wavemaster at belt level.
The student will then extend their kick and press the pad against the wavemaster and hold for 5 second.
If you drop the block, your teams get 1 “broken egg”.
After 5 seconds, the instructor will grab the block, and the student will rechamber their round kick. After everyone has had a turn, the team with the least amount of broken eggs wins.
