Skill: Concentration
Drill: Quick Block
Equipment needed: One blocker pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice concentration with their left and right arms by blocking the target as quickly as possible.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can turn it into a game, where if the student uses the wrong hand or they do not block in time, they have to have a seat. The last student standing will be the winner.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must be able to hear the instructor call out “left” or right, as well as see the bopper come towards them, and block in time with the correct hand. This works on their ability to make the correct choices quickly and accurately, as they have to block with the correct hand before they get hit.
Step 1
Have your students make a big circle.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Line up an instructor in the middle of the circle with a blocker pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will stand at attention stance.
  • The instructor will walk around and say “left” or “right” and you must block with the appropriate hand.
  • If you get hit in the head or block with the wrong hand, then you have to do ten jumping jacks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Continue with the drill until each student has at least five blocking attempts.
Step 5
  • If you have time for a second round, you can have the students take turns switching roles with the instructor.
