Skill: Concentration
Drill: House Forms
Equipment needed: An abundance of big pads
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their CONCENTRATION by doing their forms and trying not to hit the big pads as they go through. This will challenge students intellectual stage of development by realizing quickly that they path they are trying to take won’t work and how to quickly change route.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student touches one of the objects in their ring, then they can do five pushups before they continue their form.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to focus on their form and their technique, while also making sure that they do not step on any of the objects in their ring. This works on the ability to be able to focus on more than one thing at one time.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Give each group their own space on the mat. Put pads everywhere around the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • One student will come up at a time and do their form.
  • The objects in the way are going to represent things that could be in a students house.
  • As the student is doing their form they have to be able to do the entire form without hitting an object.
  • If the student can make it through the entire form without hitting an object they will get a point!
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Watch where you are going. If you don’t look before you move you might accidentally hit something.
  • Have good technique. Just because you are being extra aware of what is around you make sure you still have strong technique.
  • Don’t go too slow. Practice your form how you would practice it even if those objects weren’t there.
Step 5
  • Continue until every student has had multiple chances to go.
