Skill: Concentration
Drill: Chamber Stack
Equipment needed: 3 pads, 1 wavemaster top per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill, we will work on our round or side kick chambers to improve our CONCENTRATION with our kicks.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTVIATION – If the student drops their knee or the pad stack falls, then they have five pushups. If they keep their knee up high and the pad stack does not fall, then the instructor will have five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to hold the pad up on their knee, while focusing on not wobbling or else the pad stack will fall. This works on their ability to focus on one thing for an extended period of time, as they have to focus on keeping their knee up high so they pads do not fall.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Setting up the drill: Have 1 instructor per line to help stack the pads.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • First, decide which kick you will use.
  • The first student in each line will perform that chamber.
  • Then the instructor will place a pad on their chamber for 3 seconds.
  • Then shake out your leg and repeat with 2 pads for 5 seconds. Then shake out your leg and repeat with 3 pads for 10 seconds.
  • You are out if you drop the pad.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your knee up when chambering.
  • Don’t lean on the pad too much.
