Skill: Kicking
Drill: Giant Kicks
Equipment needed: 5 rings or spot dots per line.
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice KICKING by being able to kick and step down the mat. This will challenge the students physical stage of development by requiring the students to move forward as they’re kicking.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – The student can name the color of the ring they are stepping in while they do the drill.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to step into the correct ring and do the kick when the instructor says a number.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an instructor with the rings set-up in stepping motion down the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up facing the rings.
  • The student will kick and put the kicking foot in the first ring.
  • They will then use the other foot as they kick and move that foot to the next ring.
  • They will continue this until they get to the end of the rings.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your knee high when you kick
  • Re- Chamber so your foot is easy to move.
  • Keep your head up as you kick.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
