Drill: Kick and Catch
Equipment needed: 1 balloon per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The student will toss a balloon in the air, kick the balloon, and then catch it before it touches the ground. This will help the students build foot-eye-coordination, hand-eye-coordination, gross motor skills, and spatial awareness.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can kick the balloon and catch it successfully three times in a row, the instructor will do three pushups.
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the balloon, kick, see where the balloon went, and catch it.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need a balloon.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You are going to toss the balloon in the air, and then kick it.
  • Once you kick it, you have to catch it.
  • You will do this three times.
  • Your goal is to kick the balloon high enough so that you can catch it before it touches the ground.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Kick fast!
  • Watch the balloon
  • Keep your hands out
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
