Drill: Feet in a Line
Equipment needed: Small items to step on – small feet available through Century catalog
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice the early stages of stepping forward (heel-to-toe) while kicking. Many children within this age group have a hard time stepping forward according to the specific mechanical details of placing your heel to your toe. At the same time, it is even more challenging to add kicks in between each step.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – The student can name the color of the object they are stepping on while they do the drill.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to step on each object, while remembering to kick in between steps.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, lay out some small objects close together in a straight line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will step forwards on each object alternating feet.
  • You must kick before you step forward.
  • Change legs as you kick and step.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn to walk in a straight line, following a path
  • Alternate kicks and land in the correct spots
  • Chance between walking and stepping
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has three turns.
