Skill: KICKING
Drill: Which Foot?
Equipment needed: 2 Square Pads
Instructors needed: 1 instructor per line
Description: The students will practice KICKING by trying to do front kicks with the proper leg when prompted by the instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY
  • The instructor can try to trick the students by fake moving the pad to see if the students will kick without being prompted.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
  • The students should wait to see the hand held out by the instructor so that they know which foot they’re supposed to use.
Step 1
  • Have students form lines with their instructor
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will put the small square pads on their hands.
  • When the instructor holds out their right hand the student will kick with the foot on the same side
  • The goal is for the students to kick what they see not cross the lateral plane.
  • They will switch feet whenever the instructor switches hands, continue this process until the student does 5 reps.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Eyes open so you know which pad to hit.
  • Knee up so you can hit the pad quickly
  • Kick fast so that you practice hitting the pads hard.
Step 4
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
