Skill: KICKING
Drill: Tower Blocks
Equipment needed: 3 step blocks per line
Instructors needed: Multiple to monitor
Description: The students will practice having good BLOCKING students will demonstrate alternating steps and blocks as they climb up to the top of the tower. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to climb a steadily higher obstacle and still demonstrate strong blocks.
Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION
  • If the students get hit with the noodle or they fall off the pads, then they have three jumping jacks before they can restart. If they are able to complete their turn without getting hit and without falling over, then the instructor will do three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
  • The students must be able to step from pad to pad without falling over, and do their blocks. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they must judge the distance from tower to tower and decide how far they will need to step.
Step 1
  • Have students form lines.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student will start with the smallest block they will place one foot on the pad and block with the corresponding hand.
  • They will then step with the other foot and block with the other hand.
  • They will continue this until the student reaches the top of the tower then they can jump off.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your blocking arm up high.
  • Take big steps to get up the tower.
  • Use your eyes to see where you should step.
Step 4
  • Continue until each student has multiple turns.
