Skill: KICKING
Drill: Happy Feet
Equipment needed: 1 clapper pad, and 1 kicking shield
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good kicks by stepping fast on and off a pad then throwing two kicks over that pad.
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – While doing this drill, the first turn can be slow and sloppy, and as they work their way up get faster and have better technique; five should be as fast as the student can go with good technique on their kicks.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to have the correct footwork and execute it swiftly while doing their kicks.
Step 1
Separate your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Base the lines off of how many instructors you have.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says go the student will step two feet onto the kicking shield then two feet off.
  • After they are off the kicking shield, they will throw 2 front kicks hitting the clapper pad over the kicking shield.
  • Each student will get to do this 5 times during their turn.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Move fast as you go off and on to the pad.
  • Kick the pad strong on every single rep.
  • Keep your hands up, so that you can stay safe.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
