Drill: Combo Captain
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CREATIVITY by demonstrating their ability to come up with a fun combo that they will get to tech their teammates. This will challenge the students mentally and socially by requiring the students to create a combo as well as taking directions from someone who may be younger or older than you.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each group, you will need an Instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will choose 1 person to start.
  • The leader will have 3 minutes to come up with a 5-10 move combo using any martial arts or gymnastics style moves they may know.
  • At the end of 3 minutes each team will come up with their captain and demo their form.
  • The goal is for the leader to make a fun cool combo, while the others listen and do as they’re directed without interrupting their captain.
  • The team with the coolest combo at the end wins a point for their team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Listen to the instructor even if you think your idea is better.
  • Be creative and use moves that you don’t use often.
  • Be confident and strong with your combos.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2 turns.
