4 Part Kick

Description:
In this drill the students will practice having great coordination with their kicks by practicing all 4 parts of a kick while calling out each part.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can allow the students to pick which kick they would like to do: front kick, round kick, or side kick. The choice will empower the students and motivate them to do well during this drill.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – Every time a student does a kick, they must be able to remember the four parts to the kick. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they must recite and execute every part to the kick, every time.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have one instructor per line hold a clapper target.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Say “Chamber” while bending the knee before the kick
  • Say “execute” while extending the foot towards the target
  • Say “re-chamber” while bending the knee back to chamber position
  • Say “return” while placing the foot back on the floor
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
  • Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Make sure you emphasize good technique throughout the kick
  • Work on the proper mechanics
