Skill: Coordination
Drill: Criss Cross Crash
Equipment needed: 1 Wavemaster top, 2 blocks per line
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: The students will practice their COORDINATION in this drill by challenging them to punch across the vertical plane.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Instead of saying a direction, the instructor can just say “go” in order to try to trick the students. Or, the instructor can say words that sound like their directions, like “might” or “lift” to trick the students. This will further enhance their auditory processing, as they will work on their ability to analyze what is being said, instead of just listening to the sounds of the words.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must be able to hear their instructor call out right or left, and use that hand to punch the block on the other side. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they must be able to pop up fast and punch the opposite side with the correct hand.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 wavemaster pad with 2 block on top per line.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student in line will lay on their stomach.
  • The instructor will call a hand to punch with ie. “Left”
  • They will then quickly stand into a good guarding stance.
  • The student must then use the Left hand to punch across the vertical plane and punch the block on the right side.
  • The first student to do so wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Make sure we stand up super fast when we hear which side to hit with.
  • Remember to cross the vertical plane when punching.
  • Yell loud so the instructor knows who hit the strongest.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
