Skill: Coordination
Drill: Advanced Sandwich
Equipment needed: 3 slammer targets per line
Instructors needed: Three per line
Description: In this drill the student will practice knowing their left and right leg by kicking slammer targets.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can point in one direction while saying a different direction. This will further enhance their auditory processing, as they will work on their ability to analyze what is being said, and recognize the visual cue as incorrect.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must be able to listen for which direction the instructor calls out, and strike the right bag. This works on their ability to follow verbal commands quickly and accurately, and know the difference between their left and their right.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines. Have three people hold a slammer target and have them face each other approximately 4 feet apart. You can use students to help if you do not have enough instructors.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The first student in each line will stand in between the slammer targets. If the student kicks the wrong target, then the instructors will squish the student like a sandwich.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will call out the following commands:
  • Left front kick – kick the target in front with the left leg
  • Left side kick – kick the target to the left with left leg
  • Right front kick – kick the target in front with the right leg
  • Right side kick – kick the target to the right with right leg
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • React quickly by kicking with the correct kick
  • Quick decisions on left or right
  • Try to avoid getting squished
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
