Skill: Coordination
Drill: Blindfold Challenge
Equipment needed: One blindfold per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will build their coordination skills by performing left and right combinations while blindfolded. This will help the students focus even more without using visual skills to remember their left and right.
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – The students can have a really sloppy punch on their first one, and slowly increase in quality until on their fifth punch, they have their best technique. The instructor can match their voice to the quality of their moves, so the instructor can say “one” sloppy and tired, and say “five” strong, in order to remind the students to increase their quality.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor call out “left” or “right”, and use that hand to punch. This works on their ability to follow audio cues correctly.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need a blindfold.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Place the blindfold on.
  • I will call out left or right punch.
  • You will punch with the proper hand.
  • You must perform five left and right commands in a row correct.
  • If you perform five left and right commands in a row correct, then I will do 10 jumping jacks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Making decisions based on audio cues
  • Practice techniques, even when blindfolded
Step 5
  • Continue until every student has two turns.

  • On the second turn you can add two and three punch combinations.

  • You can add variety by using kicks or blocks.
