Description:
In this drill the students will practice learning their left and right hand and foot by hitting a wave bag.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – Instead of saying “go”, the instructor can say words that sound similar, like “gopher” and “ghost” in order to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students will have to listen to the instructor’s combination that they call out, and run down to the bag and perform that combination correctly. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, set up one wave bag on the opposite side of the training deck.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
The instructor will call out a combination and then say “go.” For example: “left punch-right-punch-left kick-go!”
The first student from each line will race to the other end of the deck and strike the bag with the appropriate combination and then run back to their line.
The first student to strike the bag correctly and make it back to their line will earn a point for their line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Practice left and right strike against a Wavemaster.
Fine tune listening skills
Maintain information while multitasking
Step 5
Continue until each student has a turn. The line with the most points is the winner.
