  • MEMORY means to put things in one ear and not let them come out the other ear.

Here are three memory tips that you will learn today:

1. Short term MEMORY is something that you only need to remember for a little bit, like where you line up for class. 2. Long-term MEMORY is when you need to remember something for a long time like your phone number and the names of your Martial Arts moves. 3. Reactive MEMORY is how quickly you can remember something.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

4 Corner Memory:

In this drill the students are going to put their reaction skills to the test by racing to the proper corner
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – Try to trick the students by pointing to the wrong corner as you call out a move.
  • Brain SKILLZ: AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students will build listening skills as they listen for the commands to follow as quickly as possible.

Spell It:

Students will practice MEMORY by demonstrating their ability to spell out their name as they add a basic with every letter of their name. This will challenge the students mentally by requiring them to quickly have to demonstrate different moves and spell their name at the same time.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can spell their name while performing strong moves, then the instructor will do 5 jumping jacks.
  • Brain SKILLZ: WORKING MEMORY – The student will have to hang onto the order of letters from their name in their brain as they spell it and perform martial arts moves.
