Class 15 – Speed

Dynamic Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: 1- arm Push-ups
  • Legs: Squat jump tucks
  • Abs: Leg raises
  • Core: Crazy crabs
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on SPEED.
  • SPEED means full, maximum, or optimum rate of motion

Here are the three SPEED tips that you will learn today:

1. Technical SPEED – optimum quality of your movements while maintain a maximum rate of motion. 2. Reactive SPEED – how quickly your brain can respond. 3. Explosive SPEED – non-stop, maximum motion of your body.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Escape Relay:

The students will work on their ability to have great technical SPEED by escaping from stage 1 self-defense moves 1-3.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY – The instructor can say words that sound like “go”, like “go kart” or “snow” to keep the students engaged and improve their auditory processing.
  • Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to remember how to perform the correct escape when the instructor grabs their hand.

Beat Em’:

In this drill the students will practice having explosive speed. One student will race to the cone on their left or right. The student behind him/ her must try and beat the student to that cone.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – See which partner can have more points at the end of the game. Each time they grab the cone, that is one point.
  • Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see which direction their partner is going, and run faster then them to get the cone.
Dynamic Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Half kneeling hamstring stretch
  • Kneeling sideways leg swing
  • Stretch outside crescent kick
  • Windmills
Game – 3-minutes
  • Team Dodge Ball
