Class 14 – Perseverance

Active Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Intermediate push-ups
  • Legs: Squats touching the ground
  • Abs: Dish pulling knees in
  • Core: Bridge with kicks
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on PERSEVERANCE.
  • PERSEVERANCE means to not give up your endurance, focus, or determination.

Here are the three PERSEVERANCE tips that you will learn today:

1. Do not give up your endurance especially when you are tired. 2. Do not lose focus under pressure and also when something is easy. 3. Do not give up your determination especially when something gets difficult.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Don’t Drop the Pad:

Students will work on maintaining good form and technique for 1 minute on the exercises that the instructor chooses.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – See which student can hold their pad the longest; they will earn a point for their line, and the line with the most points at the end of the game wins.
  • Brain SKILLZ: ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to hold their leg high and still so the pad does not fall.

1 Minute Champion:

Students will battle a teammate as they chase each other around in a circle, but they must listen for the instructor to yell out switch.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: INSTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the students can work hard and have good exercises, they will make the instructors proud. If they can work even harder and have great exercises without giving up, they will make their parents proud. If they can work the hardest and have excellent exercises without giving up they will make everyone proud.
  • Brain SKILLZ: RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to do their exercises and stay on task, despite the distraction of being extremely tired.
Active Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Ankle rotations
  • Clock stretch
  • Forward lunges
  • Lower back sitting stretch
Game – 3-minutes
  • Speed ball
