Drill: Know Your Punches
Equipment needed: 1 Ring Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their MEMORY by alternating through their basic punches and matching the orientation of the ring with the appropriate punch.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student does the incorrect punch, they have to do three jumping jacks before they can continue. If they are able to make it through without making a mistake, the instructor will do three jumping jacks.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the pad, and hit with the correct technique. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to use different punches depending on the orientation of the pad.
Step 1
Split your class into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 instructor in each line to hold a ring
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will orientate the ring to that the student can punch through it with Jabs, Crosses, Hooks, and Uppercuts.
  • Each student will randomly alternate through the punches until they reach 10 total punches.
  • If the student does the wrong punch they must do 3 jumping jacks and then continue and try again.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Aim at your target so you can score more efficiently
  • Go fast so you can get the most kicks done
  • Keep going even though you are tired wo you get even stronger

  • Continue until one line has 3 points
