Drill: Instructor Favorites
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill we will work on our short term & reactive MEMORY by spelling our “Instructor Favorites” while kicking or punching.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can have the students choose whether they want to do punches or kicks while doing this drill. This will empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
LONG TERM MEMORY – This works on their ability to recall information that they have learned in the past, as they have to remember what their instructor’s favorite color or food, and spell it out correctly.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have 1 instructor per line on the opposite end of the mat.Pre-frame each line with their instructors’ favorite color & food.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first person in each line will run to their instructor.
  • The instructor will ask the student what their favorite color or food is.
  • The student will have to spell the color/food punching with each letter until correctly spelled.
  • Once correctly spelled, run back and high-five the next student in line.
  • The first line to finish wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have the best MEMORY by paying attention to what you are asked.
  • Try using visualization to help your MEMORY.
  • Use a loud voice when spelling!
Step 5
  • On round two, use front kicks and switch up the questions!Continue for 2-3 games.
