Drill: Burn Outs (Long-term memory)
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice their memory by performing all of their blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances in sets of four. This will help them build good intellectual development of their long-term memory.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student makes a mistake on their techniques, then they have five jumping jacks. If the student does it without any mistakes, then the instructor has three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
LONG TERM MEMORY – The students must be able to remember all of their blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances and perform them without making a mistake. This drill requires them to recall information that they have gained in the past.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
You will perform your blocks non-stop with both hands for four sets.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Make sure you use the proper chambers and hand positions as your perform each move.
  • Your goal is to perform the sets without mistakes to work on long term memory.
  • On the second turn have them perform their strikes.
  • On the third turn have them perform their kicks.
  • On the fourth turn have them perform their stances.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Show proper chambers.
  • Don’t stop going through the basics.
  • Think about each move before you do it.
Step 5
  • Your goal is to perform the sets non-stop without making a mistake.
