Skill: MEMORY
Drill: High & Low
Equipment needed: 2 hand mitts per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice MEMORY by demonstrating their ability to use short term memory to be able to demonstrate multiple different punching combinations with varying levels.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – On the first round, the instructor can ask the students to remember the amount of commands they were able to remember. On the second round, the instructor can see if the students can remember more commands than they did on the first round.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to hear the instructor call out high or low, and punch the correct pads in the correct order. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as the students must be able to remember what order the instructor said the instructions in.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will sit with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will start with one command for the student either high or low.
  • When they say the level the student must punch the correct target, the instructor will add 1 extra level until the student makes a mistake or reaches 5 different levels.
  • If the students make a mistake they will head to the back of the line and try again on the next round.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Be loud as you say the side.
  • Listen for the instructor to call the side.
  • Hit the target as hard as they can.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
