Description:
In this drill the students will practice their memory skills. The students must match a number to the assigned Martial Arts move. This builds reactive memory, which is remembering something and responding quickly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can see who is the fastest on the first round, and then on the second round, make it a goal for the other students to beat the previous champion.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to remember which numbers correspond with which techniques while doing this game. This game works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Start with using three numbers and assign one Martial Arts move per number. For example: 1 = Punch 2 = Middle stance 3 = Front kick
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
I will show you a number 1, 2, or 3.
The first student to match the move with the number has the best reactive memory.
If you are the slowest to match move, or if you match the wrong move with the number, then you must sit down.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
It is important that the students have good sportsmanship while playing this game. Ask the students to be honest if they make a mistake or if they are the slowest. Applaud them for their sportsmanship when they show it.
