Drill: Superhero Landing
Equipment needed: 1 foam noodle per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill we will work on our long term MEMORY and neurobics by remembering a sequence of actions and our favorite superheros!
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student gets hit by the noodle, the student has five jumping jacks.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must see the noodle coming towards them, and hear the audio command given by the instructor, and perform the correct movement. The student then has to do a superhero landing and name a superhero. This works on their ability to make the correct choices quickly, as well as perform a task accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have one instructor per line holding a foam noodle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will swipe the noodle down 2 times and you must more LEFT and then RIGHT.
  • Then they will swing up so you must DUCK.
  • Finally they will swipe low so you must jump!
  • Do your best superhero landing when you land and yell the name of a superhero!
  • Try not to mess up the order (Left, Right, Duck, Jump, Superhero landing!)
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have the best MEMORY by not messing up the order.
  • While waiting in line, think of a NEW superhero.
  • You can’t use the superhero that was JUST used or the same one twice!
Step 5
  • Continue until each line has gone 3 times!
