Skill: Agility
Drill: 1,2,3 Switch and Kick
Equipment needed: One target per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will develop agility by switching their feet either once, twice, or three times and then kicking the target with the leg that is closest to the target.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student makes a mistake, like they do an incorrect number of switches or kick with the back foot, then they must do three pushups. If they do not make a mistake, then the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the instructor call out a number, and do the correct number of switches fluently and kick with their front leg. This works on their ability to respond to audio cues quickly and correctly.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor holding a kicking target.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • I will call out a number 1-3. You will switch feet that many times and then kick the target with the leg that is closest to the target.
  • You will do this ten times.
  • Your goal is to kick the target ten times in a row without making a mistake.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Listen for the number of switches.
  • Do your switches fast.
  • Kick strong and yell loud.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has three turns.
