Drill: Ladder Round Kicks
Equipment needed: 1 clapper pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good agility by being able to do multiple kicks at one time.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student puts their foot down, they have three squat jumps. If the student does not drop their foot and is able to do their kicks correctly, then the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
SKILLZ: ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to do as many round kicks as they need to, while keeping their leg up in the air for the appropriate amount of time. This works on their ability to focus on a task until they complete it, by not letting their foot touch the ground despite having to balance.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Separate your students into lines, based off of how many instructors you have.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student will come up and put their kicking leg in front.
  • Students will be working on a ladder round kick. First, they will kick the pad with 1 round kick then set their foot down and slide forward.
  • Next, they will do 2 round kicks without putting their foot down and slide forward again.
  • This process will continue until students have reached 5 rapid fire round kicks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Bring your knee up before you kick so that hit your target.
  • Kick fast so that you are practicing proper technique.
  • Keep your eyes on the target so that you know what you are hitting.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
