Drill: Quick Tap Race
Equipment needed: 2 small cones and 1 ring per line
Instructors needed: 1 per line
Description: Students will practice having good agility by being able to quickly run, tap a cone, run back to the middle then quickly do 5 front kicks.
Teaching SKILLZ: Intrinsic Motivation
encourage students to push themselves to beat their own speed or improve their kicks, focusing on personal progress rather than just winning.
Brain SKILLZ: Auditory Processing
students must listen carefully and respond quickly to the instructor’s left or right command before performing the sequence.
Step 1
Separate your students into lines, based off of how many instructors you have.
Step 2 – Setup the drill
  • Set the ring down and put one cone on each side of the ring about 6 ft away from the ring.
Step 3: Explain the Rules
  • The first student will come up and stand in the ring. The instructor will call out left or right.
  • Whichever side the instructor calls out the student will then have to run to that side, tap the cone, run back to the ring, then do 5 of their best front kicks.
  • Ex.) If the instructor says left. The student will run tap the left cone, run back to the ring then do 5 front kicks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Move fast so that you can get a point for your team.
  • Touch the cones so that you follow the rules and play properly.
  • Kick strong so that you are practicing proper technique as you play this game.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
