Skill: AGILITY
Drill: Double Step Strike
Equipment needed: 1 wavemaster per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good AGILITY by demonstrating their ability to do rapid footwork down the mat, once they reach the end they must quickly fire their “blitz” on the bag.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the student if they would like to go slow, medium, fast, or ninja fast on their turn. This will empower the students as they have a say in what they do, and it will also allow the students who are not as comfortable pick an easier level; the students who want a harder challenge can pick a harder level as well.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to do the proper footwork, and hit the bag with the correct technique when they reach it. The students must be able to focus on multiple things at one time, as they must be able to perform two different hand techniques at the same time on the bag.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will stand up across the mat from their wavemaster.
  • When the instructor counts the students will take a double step forward.
  • The instructor will keep counting until all the students have moved down to the wavemaster and do their blitz.
  • The students will increase the speed on the 2nd round.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Make sure that all your steps are even.
  • Keep your eyes forward instead of down.
  • Make sure you have fast hands as you strike the bag.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
