Skill: AGILITY
Drill: Box Relay
Equipment needed: 4 cones per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill, the students will practice their agility by racing to each corner and kicking 10 times before moving to the next corner.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can award a point to the person who finishes the round first, while having good kicks. The instructor can see which team can have the most points at the end of the game. This will motivate the students to be as fast as they can and win for their team, as this age group is very competitive because of their stage of development.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as they must be able to perform the correct amount of kicks as quickly as they can in order to finish first and win the round.
Step 1
Divide your students into several groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up a box by using an agility cone for each corner.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student in each group will start at the bottom right corner.
  • On the instructor’s command, the student will race to the top right corner and execute 10 fast front kicks; then to the top left cone w/ 10 kicks; to the bottom left cone w/ 10 kicks; and back to the bottom right cone w/ 10 kicks.
  • On the second round, make it a competition by seeing which student from each group can make it through the box the fastest.
  • You can add variety by changing the kicks to round kicks, side kicks, etc.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on running fast
  • Work on kicking rapidly
Step 5
  • Repeat the drill until every student has a turn.
