Skill: Agility
Drill: Spot the Target
Equipment needed: A pair of handmitts for each instructor
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will work on their AGILITY by being able to spot and target and hit it quickly. This will challenge students intellectual stage of development by making them see something and have to react quickly to it.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – While in the ring, the instructor can give the students a category, like colors or animals, or another category that is simple. Every time the student hits the opening, they must name something from that category. The instructor can explain that since it is fast paced, it is okay if the students repeat some words, but it would be better if they had no repeats.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to spot the target or opening, and hit the opening with the correct technique. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as well as responding to visual cues.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Give each group their own ring. Have one instructor in the middle of each ring with the handmits on.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • One student will come in the ring and go to a guarding stance.
  • For 30 seconds the students will move around the ring with the instructor.
  • Every time the instructor holds up the pad the student will have 5 seconds to hit it with whatever technique they see fit.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Eyes open. You won’t be able to hit the pads if your eyes are closed.
  • Be fast. Try to hit the target before the instructor moves it away.
  • Be smart with your techniques, if you try to go too crazy with them you might run out of time to hit the pad.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
