Skill: Agility
Drill: Switch Stance Revolution
Equipment needed: 4 Rings (2 colors) and 1 Clapper Pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their AGILITY by switching their feet while staying in their rings and still being able to strike a target with their lead foot.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student steps on a ring, steps outside of a ring, or steps in the incorrect ring, then the student will have five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must see the different colored rings, and make sure that while they do their switches, their feet stay in the correct rings. This works on their ability to do visual activities, like keep their feet in the correct rings.
Step 1
Divide your students into even lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Place 4 rings in front of each line at the middle of the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students must run down and place each foot in a matching ring, switching 10 times before throwing a lead leg kick.
  • You must pick your feet up and switch simultaneously.
  • You must kick the target with your lead foot.
  • Only clean switches (feet do not hit the ring) can be counted.
  • At the second round, have the students switch 5 times, kick with the lead foot, switch another 5 times and again kick with the lead foot.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Switch quickly but with good technique as to not hit the rings.
  • Keep in mind that your lead leg can switch each time.
  • Have good snap on each kick.
Step 5
  • Continue for 3-4 rounds
