Skill: Agility
Drill: Zig Zag Relay
Equipment needed: 10 agility cones per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice building agility by racing through agility cones while jumping in a zig-zag motion.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the lines silly team names in order to motivate the students, like “hamburgers vs. hot dogs”. The instructor can also make it a challenge to see who can complete the most in one minute, which will motivate the students to go as fast as they can, not just faster than the other teams.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to jump in a zig zag pattern as quick as they can, and then run back and high five the next person in their line. This drill works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, and avoiding minor errors like not jumping with your feet together.
Step 1
Divide your students into several lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up 10 cones down the training deck as show in the picture.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student in line will have to jump in and out (zig-zag) down the line of cones and then proceed to the end of the line.
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
  • Next, make it a relay race to see which line can finish the fastest.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Jump in zig zag motions while racing to improve agility.
Step 5
  • To make it challenging, see which line can complete the most rotations within 1 minute.
