Skill: ROLLING
Drill: Pad Snatch
Equipment needed: 1 small square pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will demonstrate ROLLING by grabbing a pad that’s behind them with their feet. This will challenge them physically by requiring them to use their core muscles more than normal.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – As the student grabs the pad with their feet, the instructor can have them name something from an age-appropriate category, like a color or an animal. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to grab the pad behind them with their feet. In order to do this they have to see where the pad is and use the proper amount of strength required to reach the pad, and grab it with their feet.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students facing the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will sit down and the instructor will place the pad behind them.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will roll backwards and try and grab the pad with their feet.
  • The instructor will be holding the pad about 6” off the ground,
  • If they can grab it then they want to sit back up in a crisp cross position.
  • The student will demonstrate this 3 times before going to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Get your feet all the way over so the pad is easy to grab.
  • Keep your feet together, so the pad doesn’t drop.
  • Take your time so you can make it look good.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
