Skill: ROLLING
Drill: Over the Tracks
Equipment needed: 1 to 4 slammer pads per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will forward roll over the slammer pads. This will help them build good core muscle development and spatial awareness.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – On the second round, the instructor can ask the students if they would like help, or if they would want to do it by themselves. This will empower the students since they have a choice in the activity, and it will allow the students to choose their own difficulty.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to perform front rolls on pads without falling off. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as the students have to make sure they stay on the pads and have spatial awareness, even while doing a front roll.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need four slammer targets set in a straight line, or you can start with only one slammer pad if your class has more beginners in it.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You are going to forward roll over the slammer pads.
  • Make sure that you tuck your chin when you roll.
  • Your goal is to try and roll over the pads without the instructor helping you.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on forward rolls
  • Work on developing body strength
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has three turns.
