Skill: Rolling
Drill: Stay In Your Lane
Equipment needed: Multiple Cones
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice their ROLLING in this drill by rolling in a straight line and rolling fast.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student rolls out of their lane, they will do three jumping jacks.
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to roll in a straight line and not hit their cones, despite it being difficult to orientate themself while rolling. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see and to understand where they are in relation to the things around them.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor watching the technique.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will lay in the middle of the lane.
  • They will then pencil roll to the other side without going out of the lane.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your stomach strong so you can roll fast.
  • Keep your hands over your head so you can go straight.
  • Roll fast but with control
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
