Skill: ROLLING
Drill: Tightrope
Equipment needed: 1 Belt / 1 Ball per line
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: Students will practice ROLLING by demonstrating their ability to roll a small ball on a line without losing the ball. This will challenge the students mentally by challenging their hand-eye coordination to roll the ball down the belt.
Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES
  • Let students choose whether they want to walk forward or backward on their second round. This builds autonomy and ownership.
Brain SKILLZ: ATTENTION CONTROL
  • Students must concentrate fully on guiding the ball along the belt without letting it fall off.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into lines.
Step 2
  • Place the belt in front of the students.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up with the ball.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will walk the ball with both hands down the belt.
  • If the student loses the ball, then they must start over again. (About 6ft)
  • If they make it all the way down, then have the student go to the end of the line.(About 6ft)
  • On round 2 see if any student can roll the ball walking backwards down the mat.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes on the ball and belt.
  • Don’t go to fast or you may lose the ball.
  • Always keep 2 hands on the ball.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
