Drill: Through the Maze
Equipment needed: 5 white belts, one heavy ball, and one cone per line
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: The students will roll a heavy ball through a maze. This is great for helping the students build control, spatial awareness, gross motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.
Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION
  • Challenge students to complete the maze quickly with 3 year olds vs 4 year olds. Encourages engagement and pride without stress or pressure.
Brain SKILLZ: RESPONSE INHIBITION
  • Students must visually track the maze path and adjust movements accordingly to avoid touching the boundaries.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into lines.
Step 2
  • For each line you will need to lay out five white belts into a maze with a cone at the end of the maze.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I say “go” you will roll the ball through the maze.
  • Keep your hands on the ball at all times.
  • If you touch any part of the maze, then you must start over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Look where you’re going.
  • Both hands on the ball.
  • Move fast.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least 3 turns.
