Drill: Touch the Numbers
Equipment needed: 4 numbered circles, one light ball, and one kicking target per group
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will roll a light ball around the mat, while touching numbered circles in order. This will help the students build control, gross motor skills, intellectual skills, and spatial awareness.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The instructor can give the students a blackbelt challenge if they want to be like a blackbelt, and give them a different order of dots they are supposed to roll to.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to remember the proper order of the dots they are supposed to roll to when the instructor tells them each round.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Lay out four numbered circles in order to form a square.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I say “go” you will roll the ball over the numbered circles in the proper order.
  • You must keep your hands on the ball at all times.
  • Once you reach the fourth circle, you will kick the pad four times with each leg.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Roll over each number.
  • Don’t lose the ball.
  • Kick strong.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 3 turns.
