Skill: ROLLING
Drill: Chin Down
Equipment needed: 1 Dot Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice ROLLING by demonstrating their front roll while focusing on keeping your chin down so that you can stay safe.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student drops their dot while doing their roll, then the student has to start over. If they can complete their turn without dropping the dot, then the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to keep their chin to their chest while doing a front roll. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as they have to do their front roll correctly while not dropping the dot at the same time.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will squat down and hold a spot dot between your chin and chest.
  • Then you will demonstrate your front roll, trying not to drop the dot.
  • Try to do it 3 times without dropping the dot.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your chin down.
  • Keep your hands down on the ground.
  • Try to jump your body over so that your head doesn’t hit the ground.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has two turns.
