Skill: ROLLING
Drill: Zig-Zag Relay
Equipment needed: 5 small cones and 1 dodge ball
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: Students will practice having good rolling by being able to roll a ball zigzagging through cones.
Teaching SKILLZ: UP THE REP
  • Get the students to increase their intensity level with each attempt. By encouraging students to go faster on the second round or adding a second ball, you’re helping them push their limits in a fun, engaging way.
Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION
  • Students must roll the ball, navigate the cones, and control speed—all at the same time.
Step 1
  • Separate your students into lines, based off of how many instructors you have.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • The Instructor will line the cones in front of the students.
  • When the instructor says “go” the students will have 10 seconds to roll the ball zigzagging through the cones down and back.
  • If the students were able to make it, on round two make it more difficult by giving them 2 dodgeballs
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Don’t lose the ball as you are zig zapping through the cones.
  • Go as fast as you can when rolling the ball.
  • Keep your hands on the ball the entire time!
Step 4
  • Continue for 2-3 turns.
