Drill: Don’t Get Squished
Equipment needed: 1 kicking shield/1 cone per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good ROLLING by demonstrating their ability to roll away from the instructor as the instructor is trying to squish them with the pads.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – When the student grabs the pad, the instructor will ask them to name one superhero that they like.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to properly do a pencil roll to grab the pad, without being silly or getting distracted by the instructor trying to squish them.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will lay down in their pencil roll position a few feet from the instructor.
  • The instructor will then try to ‘squish’ the student while they pencil roll away
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Straight line when you roll.
  • Eyes open so you see the cone.
  • Body straight so you can go fast.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
