Description:
In this drill we will work on developing spatial awareness with our hands by PUNCHING 2 targets at the same time as the get closer to each other and eventually overlap making students cross the vertical plane.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student does not hit with both hands every time, the student will have three jumping jacks.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to punch with both hands as the same time, and in the correct shape, either straight across or crisscross.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have one instructor hold a squeaker target in each hand.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
The instructor will first hold the 2 targets for punches, held a little wider than students’ shoulder width.
The student will then punch with both hands at the same time, 3 times.
Then the instructor will move the pads closer together until in line with students’ shoulders.
The student will then punch again with both hands, 3 times.
Finally, the instructor will cross the pads (forming an X with their arms).
The student will then punch across the vertical plane hitting both targets 3 times.
