Drill: Punch the Block
Equipment needed: 1 Wavemaster top & 1 small block per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice their Punching by learning to follow through on their punches. The goal is to punch straight to the block is easy to catch for your instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can successfully punch the block to the instructor every time, the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the instructor in front of them and punch the block in the correct direction in order to hit them.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line set one small block on top of a Wavemaster top.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the Instructor counts you will punch as hard as you can.
  • Hit the block with a straight punch so that the pad flies straight ahead.
  • Try to get the pad to your instructor without it hitting the ground.
  • Each student will get 3 chances to punch straight.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your hands up to protect your face.
  • Be sure to punch fast, because slow punches aren’t strong!
  • Do your best to hit the middle of the pad.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least 2 turns.
