Skill: Punching
Drill: Clock Punches
Equipment needed: 1 colored ring per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill students will work on developing spatial awareness with their hands and eyes by having to punch through a ring that is moving back and forth without touching the ring.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – Every time the student punches through the ring, the instructor can have them say a color, or an animal, or another category that is appropriate for this age group.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to visually track the moving ring, and punch through the middle of it without hitting the edges.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line have 1 instructor holding the ring
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will swing the ring back and forth in a slow motion.
  • Every time the instructor counts punch through the center of the moving ring.
  • Continue for 3 punches.
  • Do your best to alternate hands every time.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep an eye on the moving ring
  • Punch with tight fists
  • Keep your hands up when you punch
Step 5
  • Continue until everyone has 2-3 turns.
