  • DEXTERITY means skill and grace in physical movement.
  • REACTION means an action in response to some influence.
  • We are going to run one DEXTERITY drill and one REACTION drill, and then review the testing requirements for both SKILLZ.
Skill-Building Drills – 10 Minutes

Combo Maker:

Students will practice DEXTERITY by demonstrating their ability to listen to the basic categories and then making up their own combo on the fly using the categories as a criteria. Student s will be challenged intellectually by having to pull out the different techniques from their memory bank and performing them in sequence.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: UP THE REP – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
  • Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to remember all the basics that belong to the category called, and perform moves that belong to said categories with good technique.

Flash Combo:

Students will practice REACTION by demonstrating their ability to do a fast hand combo when it is flashed. This will challenge them physically by requiring them to quickly hit multiple targets.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES – The instructor can let the students choose what speed they would like to go: slow, medium, or fast. The choice in the activity will empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
  • Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to spot the targets that the instructor flashes, and hit them with the correct techniques. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, and respond to visual cues quickly.
