  • Today we are going to work on DEXTERITY.
  • DEXTERITY means skill and grace in physical movement.
  • This is important for the “art” of Martial Arts. If you do not have DEXTERITY then your moves won’t look as sharp.

Here are the three ways that we are going to improve your DEXTERITY skills today:

1. Using proper chambers on your kicks. 2. Using DEXTERITY in all for parts to your kicks 3. Practicing DEXTERITY with the snaps in your kicks.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Basics Battle:

Students will practice having good dexterity by being able to demonstrate all of their basics faster than their partner.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – The student who can do more basics in the allotted time wins, and the partner who does not win has to do five pushups.
  • Brain SKILLZ: RESPONSE INHIBITION – This focuses on the student’s ability to perform a task while distractions are going on around them. During this drill, the partner they are looking at is doing the same thing they are, but the two students will think of different basics to do first, and it is easy to accidentally to the same move twice or freeze up. To play this drill effectively, the students must block out their partner and just focus on what they are doing, so they don’t get lost in what their partner is doing.

Combo Maker:

Students will practice DEXTERITY by demonstrating their ability to listen to the basic categories and then making up their own combo on the fly using the categories as a criteria. Student s will be challenged intellectually by having to pull out the different techniques from their memory bank and performing them in sequence.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: UP THE REP – The student can start out with poor technique and a quiet voice, and get better with every move they do. If it is a three-move combination, the first move can be quiet and poor quality, the second move can be average with a normal volume, and the last move can be strong with a clear and confidant voice.
  • Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY – The student must be able to remember all the basics that belong to the category called, and perform moves that belong to said categories with good technique.
Passive Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Cross-leg twists
  • Neck pulls
  • Rubber guard stretch
  • Seal stretch
