Class 6 – Instinct

Active Warm-Up – 7 Minutes
  • Arms: Int. triangle push-ups
  • Legs: Advanced squats
  • Abs: Half v-sit up
  • Core: Straight-leg bridge w/ shoulder taps
Mat Chat – 3-minutes (Includes Water Break)
  • Today we are going to work on INSTINCT.
  • INSTINCT means to make good judgments quickly and effectively.
  • This is important because you need INSTINCT in order to spar well on a consistent basis.

Here are the three ways that we are going to improve your INSTINCT skills today:

1. Challenge the quickness in the use of your INSTINCT. 2. Apply your INSTINCT under pressure. 3. Utilize your INSTINCT against the odds.
Skill-Building Drills – 15 Minutes

Back Fist Bag Tag:

The students will practice INSTINCT by demonstrating their ability to quickly react and strike a bag with a point fighting backfist. This will challenge them physically and socially by having the students reacting fast while having fun racing against their teammates.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – The students will apply more effort to be the team with more points at the end of the drill.
  • Brain SKILLZ: AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student will practice listening for the command before striking.

Three, Six, Nine:

The students will work on their instinct throwing combinations that flow by going back and forth with 3-move combos; 6-move combos; and 9-move combos.
  • Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES – The students get to choose their own combinations for the drill.
  • Brain SKILLZ: DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students will practice focusing on throwing moves that flow, while also increasing reps by (3) on each combination.
Active Stretches: 5-minutes
  • Advanced lunges
  • Starfish stretch
  • Twisting rubber guard stretch
  • Wrist-lock stretch
Game – 3-minutes
  • Speed Ball
