Skill: CRAWLING
Drill: Bridge the Gap
Equipment needed: 2 wavemaster per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The student will practice CRAWLING by demonstrating their ability to show balance as they bear crawl over unstable objects. This will challenge them physically by requiring to engage all their muscles to complete the challenge.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If they can crawl all the way across the bags, and without falling over, then the instructor will have three pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The students must crawl across bags without falling over, being careful how they crawl. This works on their ability to complete a task and focus on one thing for a long time, as they have to crawl all the way across the pads without falling over.
Step 1
Divide your students into line.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Lay each wave master on its side with the top of each bag facing the other.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student will be supported by the instructor in this game for safety.
  • The 1st student will stand up and get on the bas of one of the bags in a bear crawl position.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will crawl from one side of the bag across to the other end of the wavemasters.
  • Once they get to the other end they can go back to the end of the line to play again.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep at least 1 hand on the pad at all times
  • Don’t forget to take big steps with your feet
  • Keep your eyes up so you don’t fall off the pad
Step 5
  • Continue until each student gets 2-3 turns.
